By Stephen Rolston, Founder of Land Ark Homes

Net Zero Ready homes are unlike anything most production new-home builders are making.
Most production homes built in Canada are obsolete as soon as they hand you the keys. Sure, the homes are built to the building code. The National Building Code hasn’t changed much in my 43 years in the industry. Their homes will last only 40-50 years. Ours have a projected life of 300-400 years.
The most sustainable and green buildings come from building future-proof, “zero energy” homes. We’re building these homes to a building code that won’t be enforced until 2035. The Net Zero Energy Building code is 10 years ahead of the rest of the market.

Our 100 baby steps of product and performance improvements can all be summed up in the three betters:
- Better building envelope
- Better insulation
- Better ventilation
The difference in comfort, air quality, energy bills and longevity between our Net Zero Ready homes and normal production homes is substantial.

But better living doesn’t stop there. Our better land plan connects our homes to Westport. It feels like a walkable village in Europe. Just like in Europe, a person can walk to all their daily needs for shopping, eating, entertainment and community.
Westport is snuggled between Sand Lake, Mill Pond and Upper Rideau Lake. The idyllic village sits at the base of Foley Mountain. It’s on the Rideau Trail that follows the Rideau Canal right to the Thousand Island Waterway.
