Top 6 Hiking Trails Near Westport, ON

With breathtaking natural landscapes, 32 lakes within a 24-km radius, and dozens of hiking trails to explore it all, the area around Westport, Ontario is meant for enjoying life outdoors. Hiking is a way of life here, and there’s no better way to enjoy the rich biodiversity than on foot. Though it was hard to choose, we picked six of our favorite areas to hike in Eastern Ontario near Upper Rideau Lake that are all easily accessible from the village of Westport.

1) Foley Mountain Conservation Area

Several hiking loops within this expansive natural setting offer amazing views of Upper Rideau Lake and Westport. Climb to the top of Spye Rock for panoramic views of the forest and lakes below, or spend a few hours on the trails walking through beautiful fields of wildflowers. Foley Mountain trails are open every season for hikers to enjoy the distinctive foliage, colors, and landscapes.

2) Shillington Park

Just outside of Westport, it’s easy to focus on health and wellness at Shillington Park. This peaceful park just behind Westport offers several easy walking trails, two shuffleboard courts, two tennis courts, a playground, gardens and more so that your day at the park is as relaxing or invigorating as you’d like it to be.

3) K&P Trail

This 22-km pathway winds through open landscapes, rock cuts, wetlands and historic Kingston near the village of Westport. It’s made up of two distinct sections, one paved and one gravel, and is perfect for cycling, hiking, cross-country skiing and horse-back riding any time of year.

4) Frontenac Provincial Park

Enjoy both day and overnight hiking on over 100 km of trails in interconnected loops. There are 13 trails and loops for all skill levels that navigate through mature forests, abandoned farm fields, granite ridges, ponds and marshes, and more.

5) Rideau Trail

The Rideau Trail is a 387-km network of interconnected hiking trails that runs between Kingston and Ottawa, roughly along the Rideau Canal and its tributary waters. This well-maintained trail is surrounded by rugged, natural beauty and runs right through Westport, with two access points. The Rideau Trail Association, which manages the trail, also sponsors local clubs that organize year-round hikes that anyone can enjoy.

6) Smith Falls Heritage Trail

Smith Falls offers three trails that wind through breathtaking natural wildlife and scenery. Trail activities are allowed year-round and include walking, hiking, bird watching, photography, cycling, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling.
